Clark County School District, Nevada

Clark County School District LogoClark County School District has implemented several initiatives in the past few years. They have an ongoing autism project that consists of a relationship with the Autism Partnership and involves a two-day lecture, a four-day hands-on experience, and follow-up visits. The program also offers weekend workshops and meetings to provide extra assistance.

Other programs they have been working with include Project Life, Project Stars, and Read 180. Each has been in the schools for about three years. Read 180, a computerized skills-based reading program, was implemented in the secondary schools and is now being implemented in elementary schools. The student support services division collaborated with the general education division to finance the implementation of these programs in schools. The systems design and staff development department and the curriculum and instruction department collaborated on training by providing staff development workshops; Read 180 is a commercial program purchased by the district.

The new superintendent also has a new initiative, A+, which seeks to improve Achievement, Access, and Accountability. The student support services division is trying to align A+ with efforts toward building capacity and strengthening the literacy initiative.
