TRYING OUT Challenge Points and Choices Janet and her team took one road to making change happenthat of starting small and working hard. Her contingency plan was not dissimilar to the action plan she wanted to pursue prior to meeting with the seven teachers. Only now, with the setback, fewer teachers were involved. Should Janet have taken this route? Can you think of other strategies that might have worked better? Maybe recast the effort to focus on different resultsperhaps for the school? Maybe tried her original ideas out with one teacher first? What do you think? And, what about the Foxhalls? Did Janet forget everything she ever knew about parent involvement as she went about shaping her change strategy? The search for solutions is always akin to bringing strategic order to creative chaos. Help Janet recast her vision into concrete, operational termsa work plan, mission, goals, objectives, and expected results. Help her come up with at least one or two sound approaches for improving student citizenship at Eagle, given the direction she has set and resources she can muster. Help her make sure they are sound, based on research-validated interventions and select the best possible fit to her situation. Help her avoid mistakes and forge ahead. Now lets go to the Challenge Points that will help you help Janet! Each presents you with four sets of response options. After reading the first three choices, pick the one that sounds best to you. If no one exactly hits the mark, please jot down what you would do. Of course, look back at Scene 5 If a Door Closes, Open a Window. Select one of the Challenge Points to begin.
