Summary
To summarize the key points of Module Three, it’s important to understand some of the roadblocks that make people resistant to change and innovation. Equally important, we focused on five main approaches that we as Linking Agents can use to overcome these roadblocks. Namely:

  • Education and Communication
  • Participation and Involvement
  • Facilitation and Support
  • Negotiation and Agreement
  • Manipulation and Co-optation

Questions:
1. Can you think of "great ideas" that were never fully implemented, perhaps because of resistance to change? Why did this happen? Where did the process fall apart?

2. Do you know of individuals who have typically exhibited resistant behaviors when faced with change? If so, can you think of a good approach for addressing their behavior? What are some of the approaches that you are thinking of? Share them with us.

3. Can you think of instances in which you have exhibited resistant behavior? If so, what caused you to behave this way? What tactics might have made you react differently?

Congratulations! You’re Finished with Module 3.
