Description: Increasingly, promoting self-determination has become best practice in the fields of special education, rehabilitation, supported employment and other disability-related areas. This live web cast will overview the essentials of self-determination and examine ways to enhance career outcomes for people with disabilities by promoting self-directed problem solving and career goal setting. The presenter will focus on work currently being conducted infusing self-determination into the vocational rehabilitation system in Kansas.

Michael Wehmeyer, Ph.D., is Associate Professor, Department of Special Education and Associate Director, Beach Center on Disability, at the University of Kansas. He is the author of more than 70 articles or book chapters on self-determination and related topics and has authored or edited more than 10 books

WHO was this geared to? Family members, mental health professionals, researchers, school professionals, and youth across the country came together to discuss strategies for improving communication and collaboration among those most interested in the mental health needs of all children.
