Miriam
Gerver joined the Elementary and Middle Schools Technical Assistance
Center (EMSTAC) in September of 1999 as a Research Assistant and
currently works as a Research Associate. A major emphasis of Miriam's
work includes maintaining and updating the website; developing web
pages for educational professionals; coordinating and moderating
a listserv; serving on a product review team to improve the clarity,
usability, and accessibility of the EMSTAC website; conducting literature
reviews; synthesizing research findings; providing research support
to other members of the staff by collecting and delivering information;
conducting site visits and collecting data at various school districts
across the country; assisting with conferences and meetings by preparing
and organizing materials; proofreading and providing editorial comments
on various documents.
Miriam has worked with children in a number of research, mental
health, and school settings over the past seven years. Prior to
joining AIR, she worked at the Center for Evaluation and Research
with Children and Adolescents at the Massachusetts Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Children. In this position she assisted
with instrument development, data collection and entry, and administrative
duties for the Head Start Simmons Child and Family Progress study.
In 1998, while studying in Israel for the year, she provided support
for a family by playing and talking with their eight-year-old son
who lost his sister in a terrorist bus bombing. She also assisted
at a preschool for developmentally delayed children. While in college,
she served as a Program Aide at Perkins School for the Blind where
she assisted adolescent students who had been diagnosed with various
behavioral, mental, and emotional disorders.
Miriam received her BA from Brandeis University in 1999 in Psychology
with a minor in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies.
