Darren Woodruff, a Research Analyst, joined AIR in 1998. He is working on a variety of projects that address the needs of students with disabilities and students placed at risk for school failure.

At AIR, Darren is working on several projects. He is currently a Task Leader for EMSTAC, providing technical assistance to school districts on such topics as student discipline, early literacy development, and inclusion of special needs students into the general curriculum. He is working closely with the Detroit and Southfield, Michigan school districts on implementing research-based programming based on their assessments of district needs. With AIR's Center for Effective Collaboration and Practice, Darren has been a lead author and Task Leader for monographs, additional written products, and a national conference regarding effective practices for at-risk students and students with emotional and behavioral problems.

Before coming to AIR, Darren was a member of the research faculty at the Yale Child Student Center. At Yale, Darren was involved in implementing the Comer School Development Program for school reform in several school districts, and also conducted research evaluations and case studies of Comer school outcomes. Darren's work included a variety of activities such as the development of training workshops for school personnel, observation, collection and analysis of school climate data, and the presentation and publication of research findings on school reform. Additional experience in this area includes two years at Howard University with the Center for Research on the Education for Students Placed at Risk (CRESPAR).

Darren received Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Communications from Stanford, a Master's degree in Education from Harvard, and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Howard University.
